Turf Valley Resort | Ellicott City, MD | September | Greg + Kirsten
Every couple has a story. A Love story of how they met and how they decided to spend the rest of their lives together. One of the things that are always important to me is getting to know the LOVE STORY of the couples we serve. I wanted to take a minute to share Greg and Kirsten's engagement story before I tell you about their AMAZING wedding! On December 31, 2017, Greg and Kirsten planned to spend New Year's Eve with Kirsten's mom in DC. Little did she know Greg planned a surprise at Big Night DC New Year’s Eve Extravaganza, which took place at the Gaylord National Harbor Resort. They walked into what Kirsten thought was one of the many ballrooms of the NYE party. As they walked in, Greg said that he knew the DJ and walked up to the DJ booth to say 'what's up to him,' Kirsten stayed behind to talk with her mom and cousin, Brittany. After a few minutes, Kirsten told Brittany that they should go up there and meet whoever this DJ was since he was from the same area that Brittany lived in. As they walked to the dance floor, it started clearing and Greg was there in the middle talking on the microphone. He shared a few words about what Kirsten meant to him and then got down on one knee and PROPOSED! She was overjoyed and said, YES, of course!
They shared this story with me the month they booked me to be their DJ and I already knew they were the type of couple I wanted to work with. Fast forward to the day of their wedding........it was full of so much love and energy! Their wedding was the perfect combination of elegant romance and an epic dance party. With their wedding being in Maryland and family from Virginia, I came into their day confident that I knew exactly what the guests wanted to jam to. On top of that, Greg promised that his family was a dancing family and they did not disappoint. It was literally the perfect weekend for a wedding. Kirsten & Greg put so much trust in me to bring out the energy and fun of their wedding reception and it was such a joy to give them the wedding of their dreams. We had such an amazing cast of wedding vendors led by the Wedding Coordinator with Blush Weddings & Events.
One of the biggest challenges of being a DJ is how to have a balance between music for younger guests versus music for older guests. Greg and Kirsten did a great job in considering all 250+ of their guests (young and older) in communicating the music taste. In their music suggestions, they knew that the guest list was going to be straight down the middle with age, so their music selection was very diverse in genre and representation of different decades. That was something that was very important to them. Also during their reception, every bridal party pair had a different entrance song. It really gave them a chance to show their personalities. The bridal party entrance was definitely the most hype anticipated moment. They all came into their theme song and there was so much energy in not only the guests but every single bridal party member, they all came in dancing leading up to the bride & groom's entrance which set the stage for them to come in full of energy and love.
As I look back on the photos from their Wedding I want to give a special shout out to the Owner of SOBED Creative Media (Photo & Video) Sophia Bednarik, She and her team did a fantastic job in capturing every moment throughout the day. Their pictures above were so perfect and I absolutely love their style of photography! It was a pleasure working with you Sophia!
“Hands down, A-MAZ-ING! DJ West is absolutely amazing! It was really important for my husband and me to have a fun reception with hits that everybody could enjoy. West took the details from our first meeting and EXECUTED. Music was great, intros and announcements were on point, and he even got on the dance floor to interact with the crowd! Not only did he play great music and the artists that we asked for, he also read the crowd and knew the exact moments to play certain songs. Needless to say, the dance floor was packed the entire night. West and his wife are super professional, very detailed, and easy to work with. They also worked seamlessly with our vendor team to make everything align perfectly. Family and friends are still telling us how much fun they had at our wedding! DJ West made our night perfect. We would 100% recommend him to anyone!”
Congratulations Mr. & Mrs. Owens!
