The Water Table | Virginia Beach, VA | August | Curtis + Emily
The first thing that comes to mind when I think of Curtis and Emily's wedding is.... just smiles and laughter! There were so many happy emotions from friends, family, and especially the happy couple. After 4 years together they were so excited to become husband and wife, they didn't stop smiling the entire ceremony. They have genuine love and support for each other and such sincere connections with their guests. The overall theme of this wedding was "Make your Wedding YOU" meaning, they really made every detail a reflection of who they are as a couple and their journey that got them to this day. Before the ceremony Curtis and Emily decided to say their vows to each other privately with their family, bridal party, and a few friends. This is an example of this couple making their wedding their own. They wanted to have an intimate vow reading back to back and they both said it was exactly how they imagined it. Once the ceremony started you could just feel their excitement. They even opened with the Star Wars theme for the groom and his men to walk down the aisle to! They also had their officiant do this fun thing: He asked the guests to shout out affirmations for the couple such as: Love, trust, communication, etc. It was so fun to hear all of their closest family and friends participate! :)
In keeping with their theme of "Make your Wedding YOU" I wanted to take a quick moment to highlight all of their small details of their wedding day. Emily had special converses made with her new last name and their wedding date as well as a speciality Star Wars garter. The Best Man even gave Curtis Star Wars cufflinks to go with his walkin theme. Emily's step dad also got specialty made cufflinks as a thank you from her for everything he's done for her and her siblings. Patrick, who was one of the Groomsmen, made the couple their wine box, where they wrote letters to each other to open on their 5 year wedding anniversary as well as their cake box! Emily's dad made them their welcome sign and Emily's sister, the maid of honor, made them a sign for their guest table that sat next to their letter P guestbook made by Emily's grandfather. They had so many people make so many of their details for their day which made it even more special.
They also honored those who could not be with the couple on their special day. Emily went back-and-forth on whether or not she wanted to include reminders of her parents at their wedding, but at the end of the day she was so happy she did. Wearing her mom’s sapphire jewelry as her something blue and dedicating a table with her dad's favorite number was one of the best decisions she made, it made it feel like they were there in spirit the whole time celebrating with them and at the end of the night she was so grateful for that.
For their first dance they decided on Forever and For Always by Shania Twain, a combination of a phrase they say to each other, love you forever and always and another nod to Emily's mother as they shared a love of Shania Twain together.
The vibe of their wedding reception was just fun and epic turn up. Their family and friends were 100% there to party with them and they so much to make each and every guest feel special and involved in their wedding. Each guest was just as excited to see the two married and wanted to party the night away with them. So quick story on how the groom and I met, The groom used to be a DJ! He was selling his equipment and I happened to be one of the people who was buying it. Emily reached out a little before the wedding and asked if I would call Curtis up and DJ with him! She thought it would be so fun for him to do with me given how we met and in front of his family and friends. It was so fun to watch him get it behind the DJ booth as well as watching Emily dance around as his biggest fan. The crowd went crazy when Curtis started to DJ. He did a mix of some high energy EDM and Pop songs that were his personal favorite. #ToPavAndToHold
The party spanned from classic Motown hits to classic rock to Hip Hop and 00s Pop. Curtis and Emily's music taste was extremely versatile. We quickly went from Country (The bride's personal favorite) to 00s Hip Hop (DJ West's personal favorite) to EDM/ Pop (the Groom's Personal Favorite) and the guest stayed on the floor every step of the way. At one point we dropped the hit song "Old Town Road"and out of nowhere the groom had a cowboy hat on and with his groomsmen he started dancing to Old Town Road! It was so hype!! Their reception was full of energy and a packed dance floor until the end of the night! When it came to picking their music selection, one thing that was extremely helpful leading up to the wedding for me as the DJ was for them to create a comprehensive Spotify playlist of their song preference from start to finish. They even were able to label which song was a personal selection of the bride & groom.
The entire day was full of so much love and support, not only from their guests but from each and every wedding vendor that they hired for their special day. We all were excited and able to communicate seamlessly throughout the day as we all received excellent communication leading up to the wedding from the Bride and Groom of what to be expected. We all worked together perfectly from the officiant, photographer, venue coordinator, caterer, to the videographer.
3 Quick Awesome Things That Curtis & Emily did on their Wedding Day:
1. Emily (Bride) wore custom made dancing shoes! (Converses to be exact)
2. Emily & Curtis made a customized Spotify Playlist for DJ West
3. Curtis (Groom) wanted some uplighting and dance floor lighting during the Reception
“If you are looking to have the best night of your life dancing then you definitely want DJ West Entertainment!!! He and his wife make an incredible team. They were there planning, helping, and getting ready for our wedding from the moment we said be our dj to the moment we left our reception! My husband and I danced the night away along with our full dance floor of guests! This guy is humble and grounded but sure can throw a party! He has keen hearing for all of the right types of music and make anyone get up off the chair and come out to the dance floor! He is flexible with time, always respectful, and kind! He definitely was made to do this! If you need a DJ for anything especially a wedding he is your guy! Recommend his services! We couldn’t have asked for a better DJ honestly! If we could give 10 stars we would!!!!”
